TIPS FOR STYLING BOOKSHELVES

I get asked a lot about how to style shelves and where to shop for styling pieces. So, I broke down the process for you and shared some styling pieces to get you started!

A couple things to think about before you start your shelves: Do you want your shelves to be more neutral or a little more collected looking? If you’re going for a more neutral look then you’ll want to pick 1-2 tones and vary the texture and pieces (See Eton Drive Project below).

Think about how many books you want to incorporate- do you want your shelves to be heavy on the books or filled with more accessories? If you don’ have a large existing collection of books then you can always check out Goodwill, Etsy, or West Elm or check my list below for some great larger book options.

Once you’ve decided what kind of shelves you are aiming to achieve, follow these steps (you can click on the images to shop):

1) Gather everything you want to include on the shelves. You will usually need more than what you think!

2) Start by adding your large pieces that are going to be standing alone- vases, larger art, large bowls. You can group vases together just vary the height and/or finish. Here are some great pieces to start with:

3) Add your books. Keep them in groups and vary whether they are stacked horizontally or vertically

4) Layer in smaller accessories and greenery. Put these objects on top of books to add height or to anchor the ends of books. Here are some smaller pieces great for layering in:
